The Tao never does anything, yet through it, all things are done. If powerful men and women could remain centered in the Tao, all things would be in harmony

道常無爲而無不爲。侯王若能守之，萬物將自化。

化而欲作，吾將鎮之以無名之樸。

無名之樸，亦將不欲。不欲以靜，天下將自定。

The Dao is always non-active, yet there is nothing it does not do.

If rulers and kings can uphold it, all things will transform naturally.

If transformation arises and desires emerge, I will restrain them with nameless simplicity.

Nameless simplicity will also lead to a state of no desire.

Without desire, there will be tranquility, and the world will be naturally at peace.

 

 

#국문

도는 항상 무위하지만, 하지 못하는 일이 없다.

제후와 왕이 만약 이 도를 지킨다면, 만물이 스스로 변화할 것이다.

만일 변화하여 욕망이 생기려 하면, 나는 이름 없는 질박함으로 그것을 다스릴 것이다.

이 이름 없는 질박함은 욕망을 없애고, 욕망이 없어지면 세상은 저절로 평온해질 것이다.

 

 

 

#37장은 무위(無爲) 사상을 강조하며, 도가 스스로 모든 것을 조화롭게 하므로 인위적으로 간섭하지 않는 것이 가장 이상적인 통치 방법임을 설파합니다.

If rulers and kings could abide by it, all things would transform themselves naturally.  
When transformation occurs and desires arise, I will calm them with nameless simplicity.  
Nameless simplicity is free of desires.  
Without desires and in stillness, the world will naturally be at peace.

도는 항상 무위(함이 없음)로 존재하며, 하지 못하는 일이 없다.  
임금과 제후가 만약 이를 지킨다면 만물이 스스로 교화될 것이다.  
만물이 교화되면서 욕망이 생기려 한다면, 나는 이름 없는 소박함으로 이를 다스릴 것이다.  
이 이름 없는 소박함은 욕망이 없으니,  
욕망이 없고 고요하면 천하가 스스로 안정될 것이다.
